About Claudia Place
Ms. Place studied at Boston University and Westminster Choir College in Princeton and privately with Marjorie Hartzell and Elizabeth Huntley. She has performed in a variety of sacred and secular venues. An experienced music teacher, she has taught in public and private schools including The Emma Willard School in Troy, NY and churches as well as privately.
Ms. Place studied with Alice Parker, composer and arranger for the Robert Shaw Chorale. She was also a church organist and music director for many years. With a real sense of “what works” in the different musical venues, Ms. Place is an arranger of duet, ensemble, and solo harp pieces, filling the many musical needs of the “harp world”.
“Claudia loves music. She loves the harp. She loves to think of new ways to show her students how to play so they can find their own love for music at the harp. This is what makes her such a remarkable teacher, and remarkable is just what she is!” – Elizabeth Huntley
In 2002 Ms. Place founded “The Harpsicle Kids”, a local group of nine children ages five through seven, who experienced the fun and joy of music by “pulling strings” on colorful little 26 string harps called Harpsicles. The group continues to perform led by Carol Malone. Ms. Place also has lead an enthusiastic group of her adult harp students who have performed locally at assisted living and nursing homes for many years to the delight of the residents. This experience has inspired many of them to form several smaller groups spreading their talents and love of harp music even further. Claudia also organized and lead a group called Lyrae Angelicae Harp Ensemble. These 7 adults went from being entirely new to the harp to performing for the delight of parishioners in 6 months time.
Currently, along with her private teaching studio, Ms. Place continues to compose and arrange for solo and ensemble harp. All are available to order through this website.
“It is truly my mission to spread the great joy I have known over the years sharing the music of the harp and the many other instruments that “vibrate” our inner soul!” – Claudia Place
